LOCAL / WINDSURFING HAZARDS / RESPECT

1/ On Patrolled beaches, stay clear of all swimmers and other beach users and don't sail in or thru the marked patrol areas at speed. Avoid conflicting with Surf Club activities. The lifesavers save windsurfers too. Be courtious when using the area around the Surf Club.

2/ We share the water. When passing, the person on starboard tack has the right of way. If passing a kiter in the same direction try to do so on the upwind side. On the downwind side, if they haven't seen you, give them a wide berth if case they jump and drift downwind. Kites have lines up to 26m long, so watch for them if passing a kite down in the water.

3/ Crocs, Sharks and Stingers. The first two are as significant as they are in any other location in Australia. They live in the sea, so use common sense. Crocs are actively trapped in the Darwin area so are rarely a problem. Stingers are in the water from October to May. Unless you enjoy severe pain, wear a stinger suit in the wet season and keep some vinegar in your kite bag, just in case.
